Subjects on this page
Four subjects are filed: Environmental Studies, History, Mathematics and Social Science. Open a subject, then the chapter. Each chapter page shows the worked answers in the order of the textbook exercise. Many of them are scanned pages, so on a phone you will need to zoom.
Not every Std 5 book has solutions here. Languages are not listed. If a chapter you need is missing inside a subject, it has not been added yet.
How to use them at this age
Std 5 answers are often one or two sentences, or a sum with two or three lines of working. The mistake to avoid is reading the solution first. A child who writes "because light is faster" and then checks the solution learns to add the missing half. A child who copies the full sentence learns the shape of the paragraph and forgets it by the next chapter.
- Read the question aloud. Many wrong answers at this age are a misread question, not wrong arithmetic.
- Attempt every question in the exercise before anyone opens the solution.
- Mark only the difference. If the sum is right, don't rewrite it in the solution's words.
- For Environmental Studies and Social Science, ask your child to say the answer in their own words after looking at the solution. If they can't, they copied it.
- For Mathematics, the working matters more than the final number. A right answer with no steps will not help in Std 6.
What each subject is practising
| Subject | What a good check looks like |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | The operation and the unit. Word problems should show what was added or subtracted, not only the result. |
| Environmental Studies | A reason, not a one-word label. Diagrams should be labelled from the book, not from memory of a picture. |
| History and Social Science | Names and a simple sequence. If the solution is a paragraph, your child should be able to point to the sentence that answers the question. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there solutions for Std 5 English or Marathi?
Not on this page. The subjects filed are Environmental Studies, History, Mathematics and Social Science.
Should a parent write the answer in?
No. Sit with the solution after the exercise is done and mark what is different. Ten minutes of that is enough.
The scan is hard to read on a phone. What should we do?
Turn the phone sideways and zoom, or open the page on a larger screen. The answers follow the exercise order, so you only need the question you are checking.
